Friends of Cortes Island (FOCI) is a long-established Cortes Island charity that has enjoyed wide public support across the political spectrum. This unifying support is due to a shared love of this place and a recognition of the need to protect and preserve our wild spaces for generations to come.

One of the most serious challenges facing our planet is climate change, and FOCI’s Climate Action Committee was born out of the recognition of this impact on FOCI’s work to protect and preserve local ecosystems. In the days ahead, the Climate Action Committee needs to be able to operate freely and responsively, and it has become apparent that FOCI as an organization is not resourced to support its core work as well as that of the Climate Action Committee. Given this reality, the Board of Directors of FOCI has elected to separate the Climate Action Committee from FOCI, at least on an interim basis, while we sort out what is best for each entity.
