Dear Cortes Island Community,

As you may know, Cortes Island School was selected to have a new playground installed this year. While the province provides a healthy sum of funding for such projects, the funds tend to go fast, especially with remote locations and double ferries. We will be adding to our current playground apparatus significantly and building a small fitness-focused area behind the woodshop. We were also hoping to build a tiered log area by the play structure to provide a place for students and users to sit and a kind of outdoor classroom. We are thus looking for cedar (red or yellow) logs. We require 15 logs, 12 feet long, roughly 12-14” in diameter. If the logs could be debarked that would also be a huge cost saving. We have some funds for the logs and can fundraise if more is required, but we would love to source the logs locally instead of shipping the over from Nanaimo, which, as you might imagine, is expensive. Please let me know if you have any logs or any ideas as to who we might approach for such a project. Thanks so much: michael.daturasd72.bc.ca
