Hello my friends, my community, my good angels.
here is an update on what your dollars are doing, as well i would appreciate a wide push of theis gofundme, spread it far and wisde. when i reach the goal, we're all set for the year.
here is a link to the gofundme
https://gofund.me/84373b27This is an update on how your contributions have been used and the progress we are making.
Since relocating to be closer to family, we have been addressing the challenges of accessing autism services for Sparrow, who has aged out of early intervention funding. All local speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and occupational therapists (OTs) are currently waitlisted. Sparrow is on these waitlists, and we are working with an online SLP from Quadra Island in the interim.
Your donations have allowed us to hire a behavioral interventionist (BI) who will work one-on-one with Sparrow. The BI will also facilitate his participation in a weekly social group for children on the autism spectrum. The social group provides structured opportunities for practicing social interactions.
At school, Sparrow has an educational assistant (EA), but without the proper visual supports and consistent EA assistance in negotiating peer interactions and addressing fine motor challenges, he is struggling to integrate with his classmates. This has made social engagement difficult, and he is frequently sent home after just a few hours each day. The BI will help advocate for better inclusion practices and work alongside me to ensure Sparrow’s needs are met.
I am working to secure a psych-educational evaluation to assess Sparrow’s learning needs and address any potential impacts from his medical history. If not provided through the school system, a private evaluation costing approximately $3,000 may be necessary.
https://www.autismbc.ca/blog/autism-q-and-a/what-is-a-psych-ed/To reduce reliance on external services and supplement Sparrow’s therapies, I have enrolled in a BI training course. Additionally, I have created a sensory corner at home with equipment and tools tailored to Sparrow’s needs.
It is your generous contributions that have allowed me to begin these interventions, and I need to push to reach the full amount required to sustain them. Let’s share this campaign far and wide with anyone who might have a soft spot for Sparrow, autistic children, and giving them the best chance to navigate a neurotypical world.
Thank you all for your support.
