This year’s CBC (Christmas Bird Count) is planned for Saturday, December 28, 2024.Please mark your calendars and watch for more announcements. If the weather does not cooperate, this date may change.
We plan to start at 9 a.m. with one group meeting at the Museum (and heading out with George Sirk or another bird leader), one in Squirrel Cove (with Laurel Bohart and Donna Collins), and another in Whaletown (with Chris Napper).
You can also go on your own, with your family and friends, and report your observations to the museum by email (cimascortesmuseum.com).
We can have a lunch break at the Museum (bring your lunch; coffee/tea will be provided). Then, around 3 p.m., we will tally our observations with George Sirk, who will ensure that “all is good and that rare sightings are documented.” Again, bird feeder and individual watchers can send their observations by email.
The printed bird forms will be available at the museum. They are also attached to this post.
We are counting all the birds noticed. Rare species must be documented by specifying the location plus a photo (preferable) or a description and location where observed. We consider the bird “rare” if it is not on our usual list.
The results of our CBC are then sent to Birds Canada and the Audubon Society. These organizations collect data from all CBC events and verify our results.
Please check our birding website page,
https://cortesmuseum.com/wild-cortes/bird-counts/, for more information about CBC.
If you plan to go birding on your own, please let us know where you plan to go – email the Museum at cimascortesmuseum.com and George Sirk at gsirknatureboygmail.com. We need to make sure our usual birding grounds are covered.
When emailing your results to cimascortesmuseum.com, list your birds in this format:
