Chris McKerley
Hoyt William McKerley Jr. died peacefully on December 3, 2024, at the Discovery Harbour care centre in Campbell River.

He was born in Alabama in 1937, studied chemistry at Emory University and philosophy and math at Berkeley, served in the US Army, from which he was honourably discharged, and spent the majority of his working life as a high school math teacher in Grass Valley, California, and Calgary. He summered on Cortes starting in 1978 and retired here in 1993. Hoyt loved the outdoors and hiked extensively in the deserts of the Southwest US and the Alberta Rockies. He enjoyed skiing and mountaineering, as well as eclectic interests ranging from astronomy to woodworking. He was an avid Scottish Country dancer for 30 years and taught classes at the Gorge Hall in the late 1990s.

Hoyt will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Gail; his sons, Chris and Paul; foster son, Ruben Aisaican; and grandchildren, Tamsen, Aiden, Roslyn, Jess, and Skye.

He will be buried in the Manson cemetery at 2:30 PM on Saturday, December 7. Visitors are welcome to stop by to pay their respects. There will be no public reception.
