This is a reminder to anyone looking for a great way to support Cortes students on Giving Tuesday and beyond.
The Dr. Emily Ellingsen Memorial Bursary fund, which has been awarding bursaries to Cortes students annually since 2011, is now being administered by the Cortes Foundation.
What this means for donors is that contributions to Emily’s Bursary fund can now receive tax receipts, both for CAD and USD contributions.
To make a CAD dollar tax deductible donation, please visit
www.cortesfoundation.ca, and click on the “Donate Now” button on the top right of the screen. In the “Fund” dropdown box, select Emily Ellingsen Scholarship Fund. To make a USD donation, visit the “Donate Now” page and click on the “contact us” link at the top of the page.
Emily’s family would like to thank the Cortes Island School Parent Advisory Committee for its ongoing support, and those who contributed during the Cortes Foundation’s and CKTZ Cortes Radio’s awareness raising drive last summer.
I would also like to extend my special thanks to Bobby Hayes for his generous contribution to Emily’s Bursary. It took me back to bar seats with regulars at the Taka Mika — Benny and Ruth, Bobby and his brother Frank, along with Pat Finnerty, Johnny Hansen, Gillis from Marina, an occasional appearance by Steve Musial and many others — during the summer of 1996, when I first met Emily.
