Join Max Thaysen and Christine Leclerc for an interactive online workshop exploring ambitious climate solutions.

We often hear about the need for increased climate ambition, but what does that actually mean? What will it take to keep warming to safe(ish) levels? How do different emissions reduction targets and solutions affect our community?

In this workshop, Max will introduce emissions targets and the concept of a fair share. Participants will also explore the Climate Equity Reference Calculator, a tool for calculating Canada's fair share emissions target.

Christine will guide participants through the En-ROADS Climate Solutions Simulator, a dynamic tool developed by MIT Sloan and Climate Interactive. En-ROADS allows users to explore the impacts of various policy and technology choices on global warming and carbon emissions. Together, we will examine community carbon budgets, adjust factors like renewable energy, land use, and agricultural practices, and see how these changes affect global temperature rise. This tool provides valuable insight into how different decisions contribute to specific climate outcomes, highlighting pathways to limit warming while supporting agriculture.

About the presenters:

Max Thaysen is a passionate advocate for climate action, sustainable farming, and self-sufficient sustainable(ish) living. Max eats climate books for breakfast. Since 2007, he has lived off-grid in a 200 sq-ft home, practising food self-sufficiency and generating his own electricity, in the traditional territory of the Klahoose, Tla'amin and Homalco Nations (Cortes Island). He claims to have ridden over 14,000 kms on his electric bike. Max works as a paramedic and serves his community in various other capacities, including as a board member of the Friends Of Cortes Island Society, Alternate Regional Director and various other engagements with Democracy. Max is currently pursuing a certificate in Transformative Climate Action from the University Of Victoria, BC.

Christine Leclerc is a researcher at Simon Fraser University’s Climate Research Lab, focusing on the water cycle impacts of nature-based climate solutions. She is also an En-ROADS Climate Ambassador, advancing climate education through interactive modeling and collaboration.
Christine lives in Coast Salish Homelands / Burnaby, B.C. She is an award-winning author and science communicator who studies the water cycle impacts of nature-based climate solutions at Simon Fraser University‘s Climate Research Lab. In addition, Leclerc Chairs the BC NDP‘s Standing Committee on Agriculture. She is a past member of SFU’s Hydrology Research Group and has served as an Expert Reviewer with the IPCC, an inaugural cohort member of Evidence for Democracy‘s Science to Policy Accelerator, and on the non-profit boards of Embark Sustainability and Sierra Club BC.
