Cortes Island Emergency Support Services is a local team trained to provide basic support to people impacted by emergency and disasters.
Thursday October 17th at 10:17am the annual Shakeout will take place. Shakeout is an earthquake preparedness event where British Columbians are encouraged to all practice a ‘Drop, Cover and Hold On’ drill. In support of Shakeout, Cortes Island ESS will be hosting two Neighborhood Emergency Preparedness Program workshops.
Workshop #1 Thursday October 17th 7:00pm – 9:00pm at Gorge Hall
Workshop #2 Saturday October 19th 2:00pm – 4:00pm at Mansons Hall
The focus of these workshops is foster a more resilient community that is better able to support each other after a disaster that overwhelms the capacity of our local responders to provide assistance. We’re hoping to enhance the self-reliant nature of Cortes Island where neighbors are checking on each other and making sure we’re all ready to handle whatever disaster may come our way.
Registration is not required and the agenda for both workshops will be the same.
