Helen - FOCI
Friends of Cortes Island (FOCI) have been delighted to work with teachers and students at the Cortes Island School to install a beautiful Butterfly Meadow at the School.
The meadow has been seeded with a host of colourful flowers to attract pollinators – everything from butterflies through to hummingbirds. Its specially woven fence has been designed to create an inspiring and fun butterfly shape. We hope this living work of art, will be constantly changing and growing – providing a wonderful and enjoyable educational resource for students and visitors alike.
Huge thanks from FOCI and the School to: all the students and teachers who took part in creating it; Eve Johnson for going above and beyond in helping with the design and installation; Amy Robertson for volunteering her time and fantastic help in harvesting willow and weaving, and both Eve and Amy for teaching students how to sow seeds and weave.
Special thanks also to Kenny for volunteering all his help with the installation and collecting materials for us. Finally, much appreciation to everyone who contributed willow and other materials – Linnaea Farm, Sunny Brae Farm, Curious Farm, Oliver Kellhammer, and Ayami for your help in harvesting. Such awesome support for a fabulous project!
