Friends of Anvil Lake would like to inform the Cortes community that one week (Mar 13th -19th) after respectfully submitting a request to the Cortes Community Forestry Co-op (CCFC) for an opportunity for public consultation and site visit for the proposed Anvil Lake road building, that road building commenced on Mar 19th.
The Cortes Community Forestry Co-op neither publicly acknowledged receipt of community input received specific to this request, nor provided an explanation of why the Cortes Forestry General Partnership( CFGP) made the decision to proceed with road building in the absence of the requested public consultation and site visit.
Friends of Anvil Lake are disappointed that the CCFC could not provide this due diligence to the Cortes community, but look forward to continuing dialogue on the ecological importance of the Anvil Lake Watershed.
Thank you to all community members who gave their input to the CCFC this past week with such short notice. Whatever your opinions; the CCFC is stronger for your community input.
