Visitors to Mansons Landing Provincial Park will notice new sections of split rail fencing have been installed within the park. These have been constructed by Friends of Cortes Island (FOCI), working in partnership with BC Parks, to help control erosion issues here.
A new section has been added to existing fencing at the end of the Spit to help prevent further trampling of the fragile banks and midden. Another section of fence has been installed between the parking lot and the beach to prevent erosion and trampling of the adjacent Coastal Sand Ecosystem. The beach can still be accessed using existing trails.
Coastal Sand Ecosystems – the vegetated areas on the beach – are rare in BC. Plants present are fragile and vulnerable to human disturbance.
We hope that visitors to the park respect the new fencing, stay on the trails and help to avoid causing further damage to these important and fragile areas.
