2023 is behind us and we expect 2024 to be a significant year for the Forest Trust for the Children of Cortes Island Society (FTCCIS). All the field assessments are completed and we are beginning the hard work of final valuation prior to negotiating a purchase price with Mosaic. Many, many thanks to those who supported our very successful fundraising through Giving Tuesday in November 2023.

Mark your calendars and hold this date. We are thrilled to announce that Merlin Sheldrake and Andy MacKinnon will join us for our AGM and share their immense fungal wisdom and stories. There will be opportunity for discussion and questions for participants with Merlin & Andy.

Merlin Sheldrake, biologist, is a longtime summer resident of Cortes and author of ‘Entangled Life – How Fungi Make our Worlds, Change our Minds & Shape our Futures (2020) and presenter of the acclaimed IMAX film, ‘Fungi – Web of Life’ (2023). Andy MacKinnon, forest ecologist, is co-author of ‘Mushrooms of BC’ and ‘Plants of Coastal British Columbia’ and research associate for the Forest Trust for the Children of Cortes Island Society (FTCCIS).

We appreciate the value of in-person meetings but due to the dispersed geographic locations of the key speakers (Merlin in Europe and Andy in Metchosin), we will be hosting a zoom AGM.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible and sharing 2023 updates and 2024 expectations.
