Dear Parents and Cortes Island Community Members,

A few weeks ago I posted a call out for an exciting new lunch time initiative we are going to trial at the Cortes Island School in the new year. We are, essentially, looking for anyone who would be willing to provide science-based, arts-based, or play-based programming for around 30 minutes during lunch hour from 12:15pm to 12:45pm (we pictured limited runs of programming, say 4-6 sessions, once per week, but this is flexible). Huge gratitude to those who have already reached out! We are still looking for anyone interested in running intramural sports, either in the gym or on the field, and any artists, craftspeople, naturalists, or nerds interested in pitching a program to share with our island youth. I am writing again because the Parent Advisory Council has graciously decided to provide $50 honoraria for these sessions (i.e. a 4-part drawing class for a month = $200) to honour the time and prep required to run a program.
Your involvement is vital to the success of these initiatives, and we encourage community members to consider contributing their time and expertise. If you are interested, or want to discuss some possibilities, please contact Principal Datura or the school office. (Note: a short proposal will be required for review by the PAC to receive honorarium).

Thanks again for your support and commitment to the well-being and success of our students.

With poetry & playfulness,

Michael D. Datura
