Maureen Williams, for FTCCIS
We have two things to share today in advance of Giving Tuesday, November 28th.

Firstly, we are excited and grateful to announce that an extremely generous donor has come forward with $10,000 in matching funds!

This allows us to confidently set our fundraising goal for Giving Tuesday at $20,000. Thank you in advance for helping us reach our target by donating today or any time between now and November 28th.

Secondly, we want to remind you of some of the other important ongoings in the Cortes Children's Forest.

As may of you know, FTCCIS recently held the second ever Cortes Island MYCOBLITZ, a quick intensive survey of fungal species present in a region. This year's MycoBlitz focused on expanding our ever-growing inventory of known species in the Cortes Children's Forest, mentoring several Cortes Island Academy students in mushroom identification, and celebrating the fungi that help make our forests rich, complex, and magical. With appreciation to our Myco-Experts, Paul Stamets, Andy MacKinnon, and Paul Kroeger, we share the photos below from this event, which brought together nearly 100 Cortes Islanders thanks for coming if you were among them!

As part of the MycoBlitz, we were fortunate to receive permission to premiere part-time islander Merlin Sheldrake's new film, Fungi: Web of Life.
You can see the trailer here if you missed it.

With sincere thanks for all the ways you support our work,
Maureen Williams, on behalf of FTCCIS

"...Afterwards, when I was trying to sleep at night, I could hear key words I had learned about mushrooms whispering in the back of my head, keeping me up -because I had learned so much! Words like 'Inocybe', 'Psilocybe', and 'Cortinarius'..."
