The November 1 & 2 MYCOblitz, organized by the Forest Trust for the Children of Cortes Island Society (FTCCIS), was a fabulous fungal success!!! Fungal research inventories were conducted in the Children’s Forest, the Whaletown Commons and Linnaea Farm, and results will be available once the species list has been collated.

Nine youth and young adults had the exceptional opportunity of mentorship with our invited MYCOphiles and MYCOlogists - Andy MacKinnon, Paul Stamets & Paul Kroeger, each outstanding in their respective studies of mycology.

Many Cortesians participated in a fungal foray with Andy MacKinnon and Paul Kroeger on the afternoon of Nov. 1. The FTCCIS received permission to show Merlin Sheldrake’s wonderful, newly launched film documentary “Fungi: Web of Life”, with over 100 attending this screening in the evening at Linnaea.

Mycelial mats of thanks are extended by the FTCCIS Board to the many individuals and organizations that made the MYCOblitz possible:
Andy MacKinnon, Paul Stamets & Paul Kroeger – our esteemed guests & witty story-tellers
Sabina Leader Mense (aka Lemon Truffle) – our inspired organizer
Linnaea Education Centre – our fantastic venue for collections, the community fungal foray & public evening
Klahoose – the additional chairs needed to seat 100 for the film screening
Paul Stamets & Pamela Kryskow - generous hosts of Andy MacKinnnon & Paul Kroeger
Marnie’s Books - special ordering of ‘Mushrooms of British Columbia’ (Andy MacKinnon, Kem Luther) and Maureen Williams for helping with book sales
Cortes Natural Foods Coop – lunch & bread donations

MAY THE MYCELIA BE WITH US! ...as we move closer to purchase and protection of the Children’s Forest!
