...Nov 01 Myco-blitz 2023 is but a few days away!
The Forest Trust for the Children of Cortes Island Society (FTCCIS) is delighted to host
Myco-blitz 2023! This is a community event open to one and all by donation.
We have invited Andy MacKinnon (Co-author of Mushrooms of BC), Paul Kroeger (President of the Vancouver Mycological Society) and Paul Stamets (Founder of Fungi Perfecti), to join the Cortes community in a celebration of - Kingdom Fungi.
We will be documenting the fungal diversity of Cortes Island for the Biodiversity Cortes Project and making a collection for UBC’s Beaty Biodiversity Museum.
Make plans to join in the Myco-merriment!
* October 31; we will be welcoming Andy MacKinnon and Paul Kroeger to Cortes Island at the Whaletown Hallowe’en Fireworks! Come join the welcoming committee in costume, i.e. sporting your favourite fungal fruiting body on your head/ hat/ toque
* November 01 COMMUNITY EVENTS look like this:
1 pm; FUNGAL FOREST WALK; gather outside the main entrance to the Linnaea Education Center
7 pm; FUNGAL STORYTELLING at the Linnaea Education Centre; your opportunity for continued 1:1 engagement with our esteemed guests and fellow Myco-philes
8 pm; FUNGI; WEB OF LIFE; Merlin Sheldrake’s outstanding new documentary will be screened at the Linnaea Education Centre
Marnie’s Books will be on site with Andy’s new field guide, Mushrooms of BC, for sale.
Paul Kroeger will have copies of his book, The Outer Spores: Mushrooms of Haida Gwaii and Paul Stamets will have copies of his book, Mycelium Running, also for sale.
Create a photo file, with photographs of Cortes fungi that have caught your attention this season and bring it to the experts for identification.
