Friend of Cortes Island (FOCI) would like to know whether you have seen either of these endangered species nesting.
Great Blue Herons like to build their nests high up in the tops of trees. They construct them out of large twigs. A breeding pair will raise 2-6 young each year. Squawking young and guano at the base of a tree are a sure sign. To find out more click
here Barn Swallows builds nests on vertical surfaces under eaves, porches, barns (of course) and rocky cliffs. Their nests are built out of mud and generally filled with 3-5 young. If you are lucky enough to have a nest near your house, you will be happy to hear they will likely re-inhabit their old nesting site next year.
