We have had a report of a black bear in the Cortes Bay area on Manzanita Road.

Please be mindful there is a bear around, and read our Bear Primer, attached below, and guidance on Wildlife Co-existence on our WEBSITE for recommendations on how to stay safe.

Please remember it is important to secure or remove all bear attractants including garbage, pet food and livestock feed. Feed and keep your dogs inside. Use electric fencing, if you have it, to secure livestock. Harvest fruit daily and don’t leave it on the ground. Keep you neighbours informed if you see a bear.

We are working to ensure we can safely coexist and reduce human/ wildlife conflict on Cortes. Please do what you can to help. We want to keep our wildlife wild and everybody safe.

We are monitoring the current situation, please email any bear sightings to friendsofcortesgmail.com Thank you!
