Anne MacDonald loved her family, and very much enjoyed taking walks and meals with friends. She loved to travel and create beautiful gardens wherever she made her home. It is with great sadness I announce my mother Anne passed away at the Campbell River Hospital on June 28, 2023 at the age of 80.
She was born to Lucille Perry and Cecil MacDonald on September 28, 1942 in Vancouver. She is survived by siblings Josie, Marilyn and Larry; her children George (Susie), Kate (Mike), Will; grandchildren Jake (Susie), Kayden, and Fergus, and great grandchild Myles. She was predeceased by her brother George in 2022.
Anne's early career was with the Royal Canadian Navy where she was posted to Naval Operations in Shelburne NS. She left the service in 1964 and moved to Winnipeg MB and then Minaki ON to raise her children. Eventually the family moved to Vernon BC where she lived for 38 years. She became a Registered Nurse and her career took her to many hospitals from Whitehorse to Nicaragua. She moved to Campbell River in 2016 and then to Cortes Island in 2022.
Anne had a wandering spirit which took her to many places in Latin America and Europe. Probably her favourite was completing parts of the Camino de Santiago trail in Spain. Her style of travel was to backpack and "rough it". She also enjoyed being on the water in boats of all kinds, especially canoeing many of the rivers in the Okanagan.
She was very creative and garnered some attention as a landscape artist, painting in oil and acrylic; she received a few requests for commissions during that time.
Anne did not live on the Cortes Island for long, but in her year as a Cortesian, she jumped in to regular senior's walks and lunches, happy hour gatherings at Del's, many Free Store visits, tea with friends, and of course tending to her flowers, vegetables and herbs at the Co-op community garden.
Walks and talks with Anne, along with her kindness and generosity, will be greatly missed by many.
Anne will be laid to rest at the Manson's cemetery on Wednesday, July 5th at 1pm. A reception will follow at 471 Chamadaska Way at 3 pm.
