A Tribute to a Fine Coordinator

The Board and Membership of the Cortes Island Seniors Society (CISS) wish to acknowledge the long-term contribution of Carina Verhoeve, who served as coordinator of the Seniors’ Helping Seniors Programme (SHS), from 2010 to the present day.

In addition to her regular duties of organizing rides for seniors to medical and other important appointments, and arranging weekly lunches even through the Pandemic, she developed and maintained a list of volunteer helpers. Every December, Carina organized volunteers to make Seasonal wreaths, which were then delivered to some of our island seniors; she initiated group visits to Quadra to meet with the seniors' group there and to visit some of the artisan galleries. She started the “Memoir Writing” group and the Literary Afternoons, which became very popular with the broader community.

Carina has consistently been open to new ideas. She’s been perceptive, thoughtful, and kind in her relationships with the Board and the seniors and volunteers.

We, the Board and Membership of the CISS, would like to express our belated but especial gratitude to Carina for her years of work and dedication to SHS.
