Everyone is welcome to help us celebrate new exhibition –
Wayfinding: Stories of Maps and Place – opening on Sunday, March 26, at the Cortes Island Museum, Main Gallery, 957 Beasley Road, starting at 1 p.m.
And please listen to Roy Hales in conversation with Melanie Boyle, the museum's Managing Director/Curator, and other exhibition curators, in the Cortes Currents:
https://cortescurrents.ca/wayfinding-at-the-cortes-island-museum/Wayfinding is more than just getting from here to there. It is about paying close attention to the world around you – natural or human built – and organizing that knowledge and awareness to guide you. It engages all your senses, memory, reasoning, and imagination.
This exhibition explores wayfinding and sense of place through local history, community projects and maps, charts, artifacts, and navigational instruments from our collections and archives, many on display for the first time. An interactive area, a reimagined local writer’s cabin, and anticipated talks and programs round out the exhibition. Many thanks to our volunteers and those on Cortes who have shared their personal belongings, knowledge, and stories to expand the scope of this project. This exhibition will continue to evolve over the year through community engagement and dialogue.
All welcome. Refreshments provided.
