Exhibition Opening!
You are invited to celebrate the opening of our new exhibition, Wayfinding: Stories of Maps & Place.
Drop in to the Museum between one and four on Sunday, March 26, for a first look at the exhibit, meet the curators and enjoy the refreshments.
Wayfinding is more than just getting from here to there. It is about paying close attention to the world around you – natural or human built – and organizing that knowledge and awareness to guide you. It engages all your senses, memory, reasoning, and imagination.
This exhibition explores wayfinding through local history, community projects, maps, charts, surveying and navigational instruments. Many of the objects from our collections are on public display for the first time. An interactive area, a reimagined local writer’s cabin, and anticipated talks and programs round out the exhibition.
We owe many thanks to our volunteers and those on Cortes who have shared their personal belongings, knowledge and stories to expand the scope of this project. This exhibition will continue to evolve over the year through community engagement and dialogue.
