Mark Lombard for the CFGP
A new faller training program will get under way starting February 1 at block GH1 in the Gorge Harbour Area of the community forest. Two Cortes Island residents will be participating in this training.
GH1 is a 1.3 hectare block designed as a small component of a wider wildfire mitigation strategy for the area, with a focus on providing access for wildland fire crews to access the area in the event of a wildfire.
The CFGP is still open to public input for this proposed block. Please visit the CFGP website for further details along with a map of the area and the proposed block.
Once the project is completed there will be an opportunity for people to collect firewood in the area with free use permits.
Block GH1 is the only block under consideration in the area at this time.
