HACI - Jenny
Harbour Authorities are responsible for the day to day operations of Government docks which are considered essential to the commercial fishing industry. On Cortes Island, the HACI manages 5 docks: Cortes Bay, Manson’s Landing, Squirrel Cove, Gorge Harbour and Whaletown. The HACI is responsible for following Small Craft Harbours mandates while managing moorage at each dock; collecting fees, surveying physical dock conditions and liaising with Small Craft Harbours to coordinate necessary repairs. HACI staff visit the docks several times a week during the winter months, and daily during the busy summer season. Staff also work closely with the Coast Guard and Transport Canada to manage and remove derelict vessels from the area. The HACI is a not-for-profit organization. All fees collected are reinvested back into the organization, covering operating expenses, basic maintenance and funding a community bursary fund.
