A “Government Dock” is a moorage facility owned by the federal government that is part of the Small Craft Harbours Program. It exists to support commercial fishing and aquaculture, and is managed by a local Harbour Authority. There is a fee for the use of these facilities and any services they provide, which is collected by the managing Harbour Authority. Moorage at these facilities is not guaranteed, and a facility’s operating policies are set by the Harbour Authority that manages it, meaning policies can vary from dock to dock up and down the BC coast.
