The Gorge Hall has the cleanest clearest acoustics than any hall I have been in, except for concert halls. When the bow of a cello send a wave of harmony across the hall, everyone hears it as it was sent. Since intention can be made manifest, I think that resonance was the intention for the Gorge Hall.

I have described the Gorge Hall as the closest that we have to a non denominational church where we worship community.

Since the first logs were laid in 1932 the Gorge Hall has sheltered and given life to a community bond so tangible that we fill the hall with our presence at every significant event.

Memorials, Christmas dinners, fairs, concerts, dances, comedies, Greek tragedies (like the Hall tax performances), game shows, meetings boring or exciting, kids, yoga, tai chi laughter and tears, the community has poured itself into the Gorge Hall over a lifetime.

Cortes island has a remarkably eccentric, sophisticated, skilled and educated community which expresses itself in a non-homogenized unpasteurized local culture. The Gorge Hall and Manson’s Hall provide this culture the space to bloom.

The Whaletown Community Club is the custodian of the Gorge Hall, that is what we are most known for, but if you borrow books at the Louisa Tooker Library, or plan to spend eternity at the Whaletown Cemetery we keep making sure that you can do so.

Do we need your volunteer presence to meet all these needs? Am I ever glad that you kindly asked, yes, we do need your volunteer presence to keep providing these services, and maybe even have a digital presence, in this era where technology make it possible to learn with each other across the globe.

Join us at our Whaletown Community Club Annual General Meeting on November 17 at the Gorge Hall.

The WCC is not a platform for world domination, we cannot satisfy these ambitions, but if you wish to serve your community to keep providing Memorials, Christmas dinners, fairs, concerts, dances, comedies, Greek tragedies, game shows, meetings boring or exciting, kids, yoga, tai chi laughter and tears, vaccinations, pizza and cookies and cakes join us on November 17 at 7pm at the Gorge Hall
