Dear friends.
I live at 434 Smelt Bay Road. I am aesthetically, ecologically and socially distressed by the new City West installation on the Smelt Bay, midden waterside.
The installation consists of a telephone pole, a metal box attached to the pole with metal pipes inserted into the midden. A capped vault is dug into the south flank. A long pipe from the box is visible at a medium low tide.
Because it is at the exit of the north end of my semi-circular driveway, I view the box daily from my studio window. The installation is very close to the road and directly in front as I exit my drive north.
Island residents use Smelt Bay for a huge variety of reasons. It is a place of peace and renewal, super swimming, community activities, a children’s playground, and a kayak launch. This intrusive installation is an affront to them and this wonderful beach.
If you are interested in this metal installation being moved or modified, let me know.
Judith Williams.
