Voting Commences for Electoral Area Directors
Voters throughout the Strathcona Regional District (SRD) have started to cast their ballots for electoral area directors for the next four-year term.

Elections for SRD Board Directors are being held in Electoral Area A (Kyuquot/Nootka-Sayward), Electoral Area C (Discovery Islands-Mainland Inlets) and Electoral Area D (Oyster Bay-Buttle Lake). In Electoral Area B (Cortes Island) only a single candidate was nominated, and the nominee (Mark Vonesch) has been declared elected by acclamation.

Advance voting took place last Wednesday October 5th, 2022 and will take place again this Thursday October 13th from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm at SRD’s corporate office, 990 Cedar Street, Campbell River. Many electors have taken part in the mail balloting option before the application deadline of October 5th. Those ballots will remain sealed until General Voting Day.

On General Voting Day - October 15, 2022 polls will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the following locations:

Area A
• Sayward Heritage Hall, 1257 Sayward Road
• Village of Sayward office, 652 H’Kusam Way
• Village of Zeballos office, 157 Maquinna Avenue
• Tahsis Recreation Centre, 285 Alpine View Road
• Gold River Community Hall, 350 Muchalat Drive
• Strathcona Regional District office, 990 Cedar Street, Campbell River

Area C
• Quadra Island Community Centre, 970 West Road
• Quadra Island Elementary School, 678 Heriot Bay Road,
• Strathcona Regional District office, 990 Cedar Street, Campbell River

Area D
• Oyster Bay Resort, 4357 S. Island Highway
• Ocean Grove Elementary School, 3773 McLelan Road
• Southgate Middle School, 740 Holm Road
• Strathcona Regional District office, 990 Cedar Street, Campbell River

Qualified electors may vote at the polling location of their choice but may not vote more than once.

The total votes for each electoral area will be posted when made available at https://localelections.ca/candidates/index_rd.html. The official voting results will be determined no later than October 19, 2022 following the process set out in the Local Government Act.

The Regional Board of directors who are elected by electoral area voters or appointed by the various municipal councils in the region will officially take office following a swearing-in ceremony which will precede the Board’s inaugural meeting on November 9, 2022. Judge Flewelling of the BC Supreme Court will officiate for those proceedings.
