Lily's Community
It is with devastated hearts that we announce the sudden death of our beloved daughter, child, and perfect beam of pure light Lily Isobel Smyth-Andrews. She passed much too soon October 1, 2022. One minute Lily was full speed playing volleyball at Brentwood College and the next she collapsed due to an unexplained seizure never to regain consciousness. Lily leaves behind her two adoring fathers, Jason Andrews and Andrew Smyth and their extended families. Also, her birth parents Erica and Joe, and a wide diverse group of friends from the four corners of the world. Lily made friends everywhere she went. Her kindness will never be forgotten. While our hearts are so heavy, we feel the exuberance and joy Lily continues to shine in our lives.
Cortes Island was Lily’s playground and home for sixteen sweet years. She was deeply rooted in her belonging here. Lily loved Cortes with all her heart from the towering rain forests to the glittering ocean and the colorful brilliance of her community. Cortes Island will always be her home. Lily will always be one of ours.
Lily could be found frolicking in the forests, searching out the hiding places of frogs, chasing chickens, or sitting atop her hillside snacking on peanuts while sheep grazed against the stunning backdrop of Gunflint Lake. With her wide-open heart and irrepressible laughter, Lily connected people together. Lily would instantly scoop up any person not being included and support them. She loved and cared for all of us lucky enough to be in her life.
No corner was left unlit by Lily’s presence. A curator of everything fun, Lily was always planning for the next grand party. You could be sure to spot her in the middle of a gaggle of friends for every sunset at Smelt Bay. Her love of life had no limits.
She is our bright light and shooting star. While the light of our inner sky has grown dim, the sky above us has been gifted with this bright and most beautiful diamond. Lily is a spark of light blazing on, an endless golden streak burning into infinity. Our beautiful Lily, we will miss you so much.
There will be an open house to view Lily and say goodbye on Friday, October 7th from 12-4 pm at her home on Cortes Island. Lily’s funeral will be the following day, Saturday October 8th at 2:00 pm at Manson’s cemetery, where we will start with a procession mid-way down the road.
We invite you to Smelt Bay NEW LOCATION: grassy field after the Smelt Bay parking lot at Jerry and Nora's spot for a celebration of Lily’s life starting at 5pm on Saturday, October 8th. We won’t be serving a meal, so arrive having eaten or bring a picnic dinner. Potluck finger foods and desserts to share are welcome (Lily loved desserts!)
Overflow parking at the Maple Tree or Smelt Bay Provincial Park.
Let us send Lily on her way in the style she would have wanted with exuberance, joy and fun. Let us express love more and take care of each other. This is Lily’s legacy.
