We are nearing Samhain, the end of the Celtic year and the beginning of a New Year (2 November) when the crops were in, animals sold off to avoid overwintering them, and people wanted to celebrate. Come join us for a Celtic New Year's contra dance!
WHEN: 15 October 2022; 7:30 PM
WHERE: The Gorge Hall
WHO: One Foot in the Groove with Maureen Collier (Vancouver's best contra caller).
WHAT (to bring): a friend, soft soled shoes, snacks to share, medical masks optional
ADMISSION: FREE or by donation (to help defray travel costs for our caller).
All dances are taught, no experience needed. Simple and fun. As these testimonials say:
“Contra dancing is wholesome. It involves the whole body, the whole spirit, the whole mind, the whole social animal.” John Kral
“Contra dancing cures depression. The smiling faces, the cheerful music, and the exercise are the cure.” Denis Wilkinson
“Contra dancing is relatively easy. But if you make a mistake, people smile, and it becomes part of the fun.” Dave
“There’s a lot of spirit to this music. It makes for a contact high. Other people are on the same wavelength. It’s contagious.” Portland dancer
