George Sirk kindly reminded me last week of the Queen and Prince Philip's secret visit to Twin Island in the summer of 1994. Classically trained singer Kim Paulley serenaded her majesty from a distance, with an acapella version of God Save The Queen, followed by Gershwin's Summertime. It happened just after her majesty opened the Commonwealth Games in Victoria.

Some Cortesians got wind of the visit, as a few had been hired to assist with the royal entourage.

Listen to my report of this historical event, which has become part of Cortes Island folklore here:https://canada-info.ca/en/queen-elizabeth-and-prince-philips-secret-visit-to-a-small-bc-island/.
