The Cortes Island Social Profit Network is pleased to announce the launch of The Pod Project in the heart of Mansons Landing.

The Pod Project is supported by The Government of Canada’s Healthy Communities Initiative.

Bringing the project to life has been a collaborative effort among the Cortes Island Social Profit Network (CISPN), Cortes Island Community Foundation (CICF), the Cortes Economic Development Association (CCEDA) and the Cortes Community Health Association (CCHA).

The Pod Project is FREE WIFI -

The Pod project was created to address the need for safe, vibrant public space and equitable access to the internet in response to COVID-19. In March 2020, all free public internet access points across the island disappeared due to early pandemic response measures. This project seeks to address this vulnerability by providing the community with reliable, accessible, free public outdoor WIFI connection.

The Pod Project is SHARED OFFICE SPACE -

Cortes Island has an active non-profit community with many people working part-time to help make this community the special place that it is. The Pod is a tiny office dedicated to supporting the social profit community furnished with a comfy chair, colour printer and general office supplies.

The Pod Project is SHARED RESOURCES -

Safe, vibrant public space and equitable access to the internet is enhanced by the Pod Project’s lending library of resources for accessing the internet (loanable laptop and tablet) as well as items for hosting outdoor gatherings (market tents, sound system, tables, chairs, flip chart, sound system...)

The Pod Project is located in the VILLAGE COMMONS

Located in the heart of Mansons Landing, adjacent to Mansons Community Hall, behind the radio station, you will find the CCEDA Village Commons and the home of the Pod Project.

This land is part of the overlapping traditional and ancestral territory of the toq qaymɩxʷ (Klahoose), ɬəʔamɛn qaymɩxʷ (Tla’amin), and ʔop qaymɩxʷ (Homalco) Nations. We are grateful to the Ayajuthem speaking people who have stewarded this land since time immemorial and all those that continue to do so.

While visiting the land, please take care so that wildlife, children, elders and other neighbours feel welcome and can safely enjoy spending time there.

COMMUNITY ACCESS

Everyone is welcome to enjoy the Village Commons while agreeing to the community guidelines posted onsite. You can book a free outdoor event by scheduling it on the event calendar at cortesisland.com. For private, ticketed events, visit: cceda.ca/contact/.

Free public wifi is accessible onsite and we welcome donations to sustain the project. We ask that you use the internet with wisdom, kindness, compassion and good intentions.

The lending library is offered by sliding scale donation. To access these community resources, please contact podcommons at g—l.com.

The Pod Office is available to members of the Cortes Island social profit community. To become a founding member of the Pod collective we invite you to join us at the Village Commons on Friday, September 23 at 11:30am, or contact podcommons at g—l.com.

GRATITUDE

The Pod Project is grateful to the The Government of Canada’s Healthy Communities Initiative, the Cortes Island Social Profit Network, Cortes Island Community Foundation, the Cortes Economic Development Association, the Cortes Community Health Association and the many people whose hands and hearts have made the project a reality. Emote.
