Did you know that the Salish Sea is home to half of the earth’s population of the Pacific Great Blue Heron?
Friends of Cortes Island is once again inviting you to join us on our annual Great Blue Heron Count! We are keen to learn more about our local population of this iconic bird and we need your help!
Join us as we hit the beaches Tuesday, 16th August between 8 -10am. All you need to do is to pick your beach spot, bring a recording sheet, and quietly sit and watch for herons for an hour (even half an hour would be great).
To take part, please email friendsofcortesislandgmail.com to inquire about beach spots and receive your recording sheet.
Many thanks in advance, and a big thank you to the folks that have participated in previous years! Let’s keep this up and see how many we can count this year!
