Jeramie Ellingsen, Cortes Island Realtor®
First, I am a partner and a mother of four wonderful children who have had the privilege of spending their young childhoods here on Cortes. When I began to contemplate next steps, as one does when all of your children reach school age, I was unsure as to how to proceed. I had found a love for ceramics during Covid, but was hesitant to make it a source of financial livelihood, rather than a passionate hobby. Seeing a need here on Cortes for an additional on island realtor, and after some conversations with a few folks who offered their encouragement, I decided to get my Real Estate license. Fast forward a couple of years, a ton of paperwork and my residency process and I officially began working in May of 2022. It is not a simple time to enter into the Real Estate world especially considering shifting global economics, rising inflation, low housing supply, and all time high pricing and demand. But honestly, all of those challenges make my job all the more interesting, justified, and worthwhile.
I have decided to focus my real estate practice on my own sense of connection to place and people. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with local people, as well as with folks from afar that are interested in investing their hearts and financial capital in our unique island community.
Although I am based on Cortes Island I am able to provide services to people interested in remote, boat access property. Locations serviced include Maurelle, Read, additional Discovery Islands, Hernando Island and Coastal property on the BC mainland, from Lund, BC north to Phillips Arm. I am able to list properties across any MLS platform, including VIVA and the Powell River Board.
A lot of folks have asked about my decision to work with Sotheby's. There are a lot of reasons for this choice, but the short answer is because they offer the best service for both my clients and myself. The brand is well trusted, has high professional standards, excellent training resources, and the most current technologies available to real estate professionals working in Canada. These are advantages that I am able to pass on to my clients. This is especially important considering the remote nature of the local land base I am working in. The Sotheby’s brand emphasizes that “Luxury is an experience, not a price point" and in fact 75% of all listings are under $1 million CAD. I would like to assure anyone considering working with me that my real estate practice fully embodies this ethos.
I know that some folks may not have a warm and fuzzy spot in their hearts realtors for a wide variety of reasons. I hope I will provide such a valuable, high quality service to buyers and sellers that even skeptics will be able to consider the profession in a new light after working with me.
I recognize the complexity and intersectionality in this line of work- capitalism, the housing crisis, First Nations treaty negotiations, decolonization, and more. Acknowledging that complexity, I promise to be ethical, honest, community-minded, professional, and compassionate in this role.
If you are here visiting the island for a short time I am flexible and willing to show local properties if something catches your eye. Please feel free to phone my landline, or text 250-203-5145. If I am in the garden or swimming at the beach I will get back to you soon!
Thanks so much for your support and business!
