How do you want to shine your light in our community? That's the question on my mind during Family Literacy Week.

Part of the UNESCO definition of literacy includes this: "Literacy involves a continuum of learning in enabling individuals to achieve their goals, to develop their knowledge and potential, and to participate fully in their community and wider society."

It is this idea of literacy that inspires Cortes Literacy Now and the creation of Folk University and Folk U radio. What does Literacy mean to you? What do you need and want to help you realize your potential as a member of this community? I'd like to hear from you!

Thursday January 27th
Virtual Tidemark Theatre Movie
The Tidemark Theatre Society partners with the Campbell River Literacy Association to present a FREE family movie event for the community! There is no cost to watch! If you would like to watch on our website, head to tidemarktheatre.com or call 287.PINK to claim your free ticket. You can also tune in to our Facebook page and watch for free via Facebook Live.

Friday January 28th
Do Books Matter? Folk U Radio repeat Friday 1 to 3 p.m. on 89.5 FM or anytime at folku.ca/podcast. What are the people in your community reading? Why do stories matter for our time?

Louisa Tooker Tiny Library
The Louisa Tooker tiny library is a volunteer-run library of donated books located in Whaletown. It's open for drop-ins most fridays or accessible by code. Email Bernice or call her. (email ufolku.ca to get connected).
