Emily’s family and the award team would like to congratulate the recipients of this year’s three $1500 bursaries:

Isabella Meredith Drometer
First Year, University of Victoria

Natalia Auger Nybida
Third Year, Creative Writing, Vancouver Island University

Kaiya O’Cheek
Second Year, Phytotherapy, Pacific Rim College

It is our privilege to support these three students in their continuing studies. Best wishes to Isabella, Natalia and Kaiya for this school year, and in your future lives and work. Thank you as well to all those who have applied for Emily’s bursaries over the last eleven years.

On a personal note: When Emily and I were living and studying in Victoria, financial support in the form of bursaries, scholarships, and loans with partial grant forgiveness played a major role in relieving financial pressure, enabling us to focus on our studies and our life together. Cost pressures have only increased over the last generation. I hope these Dr. Emily Ellingsen Memorial Bursaries provide similarly significant support to our recipients.

Emily’s family would like to thank the Cortes Island School PAC and individual donors for their financial contributions for this ongoing piece of Emily’s legacy. Cortes Island grows spectacular children, who become dynamic, creative young adults, contributing to their Cortes Island and broader communities in important and inspiring ways. Emily would have been a brilliant mentor to such students.

We invite you to donate to Emily’s bursary fund as we plan for the future of this piece of her legacy.
