Just a head's up. Received a call from a Cortes Island telephone number and was informed by a recording that my Social Insurance number had been cancelled due to fraudulent activity and to press 1. As a retired Integrity Officer for Service Canada, I pressed one to see what their game was. When I gave them a fake name they hung up (apparently they have call display LOL).

First, Service Canada DOES NOT cancel your Social Insurance number unless it was obtained fraudulently and they would not inform you by phone (Registered Letter). Please be vigilant and do not give people your Social Insurance number, name etc. as you are giving them license to use your identity. If in doubt, ask for their name and contact number and call Service Canada (or any other Department, Bank) in Campbell River. Better to be safe than sorry. Stay safe.
