Hello Cortes Islanders & Visitors,
Twenty-seven hand-written letters and pictures were mailed to John Horgan after the farmer's market on Cortes this past week, asking to save the remaining ancient forests in BC. Climate stability, biodiversity and our very lives need the remaining old growth trees and forests. Thanks to all of you who took the time to write and draw. Here's a couple of the letters that were posted ...
Helen Tuck wrote - It's not just the trees nor the rights of the Indigenous People and their land. It's not just us singing for the magical ethereal cosmic connections of all things. It's more than that, much more. It's the small things that are lost, the small filaments of deep connection within the earth, the soul of the land and our connection to that soul. Without soul, we have lost our Love, not only for each other but for the Great Mother we must all give to. Please save the forests and in doing so, save us.
Dear Premier: I am an ELDER living in the RainForest on Cortes Island. My deepest wish is that with all the POWER you hold in your hands that you recognize the will of the people the PEOPLE we want to have trees for the future. The old growth grandfathers and mothers are essential for the tree family for ALL TIME. Please STOP logging the Old Growth at FAIRY CREEK and anywhere ELSE. -Yvonne Kipp
