Public notice is hereby given that on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 the Board of Directors for the Strathcona Regional District may proceed with final passage and adoption of Bylaw No. 429, being Regional Broadband Infrastructure Loan Authorization Bylaw 2018, Amendment No.1, unless at least 10% of the eligible electors of the Regional District submit elector response forms not later than 12:00 noon on Monday, August 30, 2021 indicating that the Regional Board must first obtain the assent of the electors by voting.
Bylaw No. 429 would authorize the Regional Board to borrow up to an additional $12,000,000 to finance the construction of high-speed internet infrastructure to serve homes, businesses and other organizations in the Gold River, Quadra Island, Sayward and Tahsis areas. If adopted, all costs of borrowing under Bylaw No. 429 would be reimbursed annually by City West Cable and Telephone Corporation over the life of the debt including all principal and interest payments and related costs.
The number of eligible electors within the boundaries of the Strathcona Regional District has been fairly determined to be 34,729 and the number of valid elector response forms required to prevent the adoption of Bylaw No. 429 without first obtaining the assent of the electors by voting is 3,473. Elector response forms must be in the form approved by the Regional Board and may be obtained online at
https://srd.ca/public-notice-aap-bylaw-429 or in person at the Regional District office located at 990 Cedar Street, Campbell River, BC. Only persons who qualify as electors within the Strathcona Regional District are entitled to sign and submit elector response forms.
Further information regarding Bylaw No. 429 or this alternative approval process may be obtained online at
