A shared making space in Vancouver
General News · 1st March 2021
CCFC Carrie
If you have the desire to explore a value-added woodworking business, this event is for you.
In the first hour, Chief Kevin Peacey will give the keynote talk: Klahoose Success and Strong Leadership. Colin Funk will provide updates on two groups that may be of use to you: the Cortes Community Economic Development Association and the Community Investment Cooperative. Carrie Saxifrage will speak to opportunities presented by the Cortes Community Forest.

In the second hour, we will break into sector groups. For the wood sector, one purpose is to flesh out ideas with like-minded people and perhaps find others to collaborate with. Another purpose is for CCFC to understand what you need to move forward. Our group will be seeded with people who are knowledgeable about how to run a shared woodshop (Sadhu Johnston), the wood supply from our forests (Mark Lombard), and some good ideas of things to make (Nick Gagnon). There may be a couple of surprises as well.

The third hour will be devoted to business-building skills. Choose a break out group on book-keeping for small businesses, how to build a business plan (and a template to do it with), building your business through social media, and highlights of Pivot Cortes with North Island Employment.
