CISS CALENDAR For March

Spring is coming!
• March 14 – Time change, spring your clocks one hour ahead. Sunrise and sunset will be about 1 hour later on March 14, than the day before. There will be more light in the evening.
• March 17 – Happy St. Patrick's Day
• March 20 – First day of spring.

Walking Group

The walking group meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9 a.m., Manson's Hall parking lot, for 30-min to one-hour walk, followed by coffee in the outside seating of the Co-op café. Observing COVID-19 restrictions.
Bring your neighbours and friends. Come and join us. You do not need to be CISS member to join the walking group. It is better outside!

Luncheons

Our group luncheons are on hold due to COVID-19 restrictions. We will have three take-out lunches in March, and they are on WEDNESDAYS:
• March 3 (by Carie)
• March 17 (by Sue)
• March 31 (by Carie)

Literary Afternoon

Our February 28 event was postponed. Details about location and readers of the next event will be sent to you by email soon.

FolkU

Folk U Radio brings neighbours and their knowledge and the issues of importance to islanders to CKTZ Cortes Community Radio every Friday, from 1 to 3 p.m., repeats Saturdays, at 5 to 7 p.m. Call in with your questions or comments or send ideas, comments, or topics of interest to you to ufolku.ca anytime. Listen to past episodes anytime at folku.ca/podcasts.
• FolkU – 1 to 3 p.m. every Friday at CKTZ, repeats Saturday, 5 to 7 p.m.
• March 5 – Seaweed Farming

Cortes Island Museum

The Cortes Island Museum & Archives is creating a new exhibit, Listening to Bees, with an opening planned for May 20, 2021, World Bee Day. The exhibit will focus on the challenges facing both wild and domestic bees worldwide and what we, on Cortes Island, can do to support and protect these important pollinators. Please join the Zoom meeting if you can contribute your bee knowledge. Zoom coordinates are provided on Tideline.

• March 7 – Zoom meeting on Honey Bees, coordinates on Tideline
• Main Gallery, 957 Beasley Road, Friday and Saturday, noon to 4 p.m.
• Wild Cortes at Linnaea Education Centre, with its tight exhibit area, is now temporarily closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.

SENIORS HELPING SENIORS
Carina Verhoeve is the coordinator for Seniors Helping Seniors. She may be contacted Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 250-935-6793. Please respect Carina's days and hours when calling unless it is an emergency. Contact Carina about seniors' lunches, seniors' meals, masks, and more.

MEMBERSHIP
Have up updated your membership? Would you like to join us? The more members we have, the more we can do to help our neighbours on Cortes, and the better impression we can make when we approach governments over concerns or apply for housing or other grants. Our dues remain at a reasonable $10 per person. You can access the membership form here: CISS MEMBERSHIP FORM.
