Tune in this Friday February 5th from 1 to 3 p.m. to Folk U Radio Cortes Community Radio 89.5FM or livestream at cortesradio.ca where archeologist Brian Hayden reveals the secrets behind tribal secret societies.
Secret societies were relatively common in the tribal world that Europeans encountered and documented, including the Northwest Coast. Yet, they have been relatively neglected by recent anthropologists and archaeologists and do not feature in any of the major models of cultural evolution. Dr. Hayden argue's that they were pivotal institutions in creating regional and more complex polities and religions, and that they account for the striking emphasis on religion in early civilizations fro the early painted caves of Europe to the pyramids of Egypt.
