In early January, 5-year-old Mila went to the Campbell River hospital with a fever and suspected infection, where she was diagnosed with a ruptured appendix. After surgery and many days of antibiotic treatment, her condition continued to worsen and she was eventually airlifted to the Victoria General Hospital’s pediatric ICU.
With a team of specialists and additional assessment, complicating factors are being discovered and Mila is finally starting to improve. However, an underlying medical condition means that Mila’s road to recovery will be long, and she will need continued treatment.
Mila, her little sister Ava, and their parents Amy and Jonas have had to relocate to Victoria while Mila recovers, which has meant a loss of income and increased expenses to cover the cost of rent, food, and supplies while they are away from home.
Amy and Jonas are ENORMOUSLY grateful for the outpouring of food, financial support, and care from their community. What they need most right now is financial assistance to cover these emergency expenses, and to have a contingency for ongoing medical costs after Mila returns home.
Mila is an amazingly sweet, smart, and strong girl, and this month has been very hard on her family. The many restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic are making things even more difficult. We would like to relieve some of the financial stress so that they can focus on being together and taking care of her.
Let’s show them that we care! Any size of contribution is amazing, and if there are more donations than are needed for Mila's care, they will be donated to the Immune Deficiency Foundation.
