December 28, 2020 – CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT, NEW DAY CHOSEN!
As the weather forecasts for both previous dates selected for the Cortes Island Museum’s CBC were bleak – we have opted to hold it on Monday, December 28, predicted to have sunny breaks.
We hope you will join us on Monday to participate individually or with family members to count the birds surrounding your house, bird feeder and “backyard.” On this day, please record both the species and the estimate of the actual numbers of birds observed.
Sightings of unusual species 3 days prior and after the 28th are noted in our submission to the Audubon database as Count Week (CW) sightings. So, this year, CW started on December 25 and will last until December 31. Please note separately CW sightings of any unusual bird species (great-horned owl, pygmy owl, trumpeter swan, osprey, etc.). For any rare species noted during the whole week, try to get a picture, and/or provide field notes (where it was spotted, what time, description etc.).
Please call6340, mail (BOX 422, Mansons Landing BC V0P 1K0) or email (cimastwincomm.ca) your observations by December 31.
Have fun birding and stay safe!
No pre-registration is required this time.
