Dear Islanders,
As your recent on-island physicians, we wanted to check in and remind everyone of the importance of ongoing measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

This includes staying close to home, strictly limiting contacts and interactions to those within your household, washing your hands regularly, wearing a mask when in public spaces, practicing physical distancing, and being very diligent in monitoring for COVID symptoms. See the BC CDC Covid-19 Reliable Resource at: http://www.bccdc.ca/health-info/diseases-conditions/covid-19

If you have ANY symptoms, even mild cold symptoms, please self-isolate (stay home) and avoid contact with others - including, as much as possible, those who live with you. Our Public Health office is concerned people are not following that last recommendation as well as they could be. If you are symptomatic you may call the clinic for a virtual/phone appointment, and to arrange testing. Here's a helpful link to assess your symptoms online: https://bc.thrive.health/covid19/en

It's also important to take good care of yourself, focus on healthy nutrition, and engage with family and friends in creative ways to help maintain connection and resiliency. Do you take vitamin D, and get enough sleep? Is your medication supply adequate? Is there a vulnerable neighbour you could assist in getting supplies if needed?

Public health is working hard to do contact tracing and follow up on any potential contacts. All people identified as having been exposed to a known positive COVID case will be contacted directly by Public Health. We are all learning in the process of this pandemic, and want to assure you that appropriate measures are being taken. However, we need you to continue doing all that you can to help keep yourself and the Cortes Island inhabitants healthy!

We acknowledge in many ways it has felt like a long year, and some people may be experiencing "COVID awareness fatigue". It has been a strange and stressful time. We can do this, and we already are! Now, more than ever, as we face another surge, it's important to be really diligent and do all that you can to help each other get through this. Thank you to everyone doing your best. As Dr. Bonnie Henry has said: "Be kind, be calm, be safe". Be well, Cortes.

In support of your health,
Drs. Jenna Creaser & Stephanie Bentzon
(On behalf of the Cortes Island Physicians)

p.s. Please note we're limiting in-person clinic appointments as much as possible to limit possible exposures, virtual and phone visits are encouraged. We kindly remind you masks are to be worn at all times while inside the clinic.

The Island Health Call Centre COVID phone line is available for anyone with symptoms: 1-844-901-8442 (8:30 A.M. – 8:00 P.M. 7days/wk)
