Thank you Cortes! It's been a strange and often beautiful year. There have been many, many moments of incredible kindness, generosity, and deep connection thanks to YOU.

More than ever, it is clear how much we need each other and how important it is to live in a community where we can rely on each others’ skills, knowledge, ideas, kindness and neighbourliness. I’ve personally never found it more heartening to have had so many opportunities to get to know and share with the individuals that make up our incredible community.

This Sunday the community came out to support Folk University again. A deep thanks to Karen and Robert Carrington, John Finlay and Bryan McKinnon for hosting a garage sale in support of Folk University. And thank YOU Cortes for coming to shop or just donate. We raised $600, almost all of which was matched, which means we raised almost $1100 for Cortes Literacy's Folk University program. That's money that will be put to use in Micro-Grants for Neighbours, Folk U Talks, and other Folk University workshops and programs.

If you want to donate to Cortes Literacy or Folk University programming, it is now possible and WITH a tax-deductible donation! Just go to https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/49127 and choose Cortes Island as your community. Decoda is the charitable organization that helps support Cortes Literacy and this is their first Literacy Matters more than ever fundraiser aimed at getting local dollars into local communities, like ours!

No matter whether you donate money, time, or just a kind smile towards a neighbour, I thank you! It all helps.

What was that page to donate: It's https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/49127

Have you checked out the Folk University website recently? It's got past Folk U Talks on the radio, events, and even Folk U Talks from the good old days when we met in person.... find it here: folku.ca
