Did you know the Common Nighthawk is a
Species of Special Concern? If you have spotted a Nighthawk, the
Friends of Cortes Island Society (FOCI) would like to know!
These amazing birds visit the island this time of year and can be seen 'hawking' for insects on summer evenings over treetops, grasslands, and around the lakes. Their sharp electric
'peent' call is often the first clue they are overhead. You can find out more about them and listen to their call at this
LINK If you spot them, we would love to hear from you! Please tell us the
location,
date and time and
how many you have seen or heard, by emailing us at autumn.focigmail.com
In celebration of the Common Nighthawk, FOCI has just produced a new card showcasing these birds; as seen in the picture above.
The cards are for sale at the Cortes Natural Food Coop and The Gorge Harbour Marina. Many thanks to Elizabeth Anderson for her beautiful design!
Happy birding!
