Phase 1 of the proposed selective harvest at CAR1 in the Carrington/Coulter Bay operating area of the Community Forest is projected to get under way in the fall of 2020.
See the Cortes Forestry General Partnership website for maps and regular updates at
www.cortesforestrypartnership.comPhase 1 of the harvest will use an intermediate harvesting system designed to supply demand from local sawmills. The exact size and extent of phase 1 will be based on the log mix required by the mills. Lower grade logs will go into firewood.
The timing for further phases of the proposed harvesting in CAR1 has not yet been determined.
It should also be noted that ALL areas of the Community Forest are closed to firewood cutting unless an opening is specifically posted. Under no circumstances is it legal to cut standing trees, live or dead, in the community forest without written agreement from the CFGP.
The CFGP is reviewing options for dealing with the recent increase in firewood theft and unlawful tree cutting in the Community Forest, and measures will be taken to deal with the issue in the coming weeks.
