As many in the community have heard, SRD directors voted to delay all public hearings until September. Unfortunately, this means that the rezoning meeting for Rainbow Ridge will be delayed as well. While we had hoped there would be a way to proceed with our public hearing safely, the Housing Committee is making a strong effort to remain flexible and focused on our ultimate goal. We will make use of the extra time afforded by the delay to refine our BC Housing grant application. This, ultimately, will put us in the strongest position to be selected for their Community Housing Fund before the final intake deadline of mid-January.
We have hired BC Hydro and RB Engineering to help design the site’s utility distribution (phone, power, internet). The cost of servicing this site is one of the biggest expense areas; the more certainty we have on this item, the more confidence we will have in the project’s infrastructure budget. We also continue to work on the design and budgets for the road, storm water and wastewater systems.
If you’d like to help fund Rainbow Ridge during this critical time, please consider becoming a supporter. During June’s Great Canadian Giving Challenge, every dollar of your one-time donation or sustaining monthly contribution enters us into a draw to win an extra $20,000 in addition to providing you with a tax deductible receipt. We look forward to the public hearing this autumn, and we trust that the rezoning will be approved. Thanks for all your recent notes of support and well-wishes. As all of us know, it takes a community to build a village!
