The Regional District has been successful in obtaining external grant funding to help mitigate wildfire risk for Cortes Island by developing/updating the Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
A Community Wildfire Protection Plan describes the consequences of a wildfire and examines possible ways to reduce risk by making recommendations to lessen wildfire threats and impacts. CWPP's are becoming a national standard for agencies and communities responsible for wildland fire management. The CWPP is a crucial step in better preparing homeowners and communities to reduce the risk of loss.
